Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Student Name:

Katie Wert

Title of Site:

Plicker

URL:

https://plickers.com/library

Description of Site:

It is free to make an account with Plicker. It does not have adds. The one unfortunate part is that I cannot figure out how to share quizzes. I think its main use is for education. However, I could see if used in all types of environments. I could see this site used for all levels of education. Teachers can make quizzes that fit their students level.

Educational Uses of Site

Despite the silly name, Plickers is a fun and awesome way to assess students on quizzes that you make. Quizzes can be made by the teacher. Then the teacher posts questions to the class. When each student answers a question, they hold up a “plicker” board that has their name and class number associated with it. The students answer the question by holding up their “plicker” board with either A, B, C, or D facing up. The teacher’s cell phone will scan the classroom for answers. It will then send feedback to your computer screen or SMARTboard to show who picked what answer. The site even keeps track of data for each subject you wish to separate your quizzes in. In my classroom, I like to use this as quick checks to see where everyone is at on a topic. It is very interactive so everyone loves to participate in each Plicker.

Review of Site

I think this site is awesome in every way except for the fact that you cannot collaborate (that I know of). The class itself can collaborate on answers, however, you cannot share your Plicker quizzes with other teachers. It is an awesome site to assess informally. It even keeps data on how the students do on each subject. I think every teacher could see using this successfully in the classroom.
